A trading centre open to the whole world, the Phocaean City has always looked to the South as well as to Europe, and is now on the brink of joining the Top 20 European metropolitan areas. With the development of a higher tertiary sector, a scientific and academic potential of the first order, a strong research base and a fabric of innovative businesses, Marseille and its new business centre in the heart of the Euro-Mediterranean area is attracting the regional and international headquarters of large corporations to projects carried by renowned architects and urban planners.

Designated  European Capital of Culture for 2013, it is pursuing a series of major public works projects and investing in the hotel infrastructure to boost a booming cultural sector.
