Marseille business
Marseille now aims to become one of the TOP 20 European metropolitan areas.
A newly attractive city, more and more companies setting up here (the urban free zones scheme, Euro-Mediterranean free trade area), outstanding universities, competitiveness clusters in leading areas, high tech companies, highly paid qualified jobs, Marseille has what it takes and is seizing every opportunity to bounce back and develop every bit of potential. Finally with the 2013 project, Marseille Provence Capital Européenne, the city has undertaken several large-scale projects to offer a more promising future to its young generations.
A High-Tech engine for Marseille
The city largely owes its international visibility to the reputation of its research laboratories, the quality of its higher education, the innovation and excellence of its competitiveness clusters, which are concentrated around the laboratories and universities on the Luminy Campus or the Technopôle de Château-Gombert. The most important sectors are health, optics and photonics. About a hundred approved laboratories preparing tomorrow's growth. In ten years, over 200 companies have been created, along with over 2,500 direct or indirect jobs.
Competitiveness clusters: Marseille is the second biggest public research centre after Paris and the region has 10 Competitiveness Clusters. The city is reinforcing its position as leader in fields such as biology and health, science and technology. Add to this 29 PRIDES (Regional innovation and solidarity economy development clusters) which have recently been accredited. In terms of figures, this represents 3,000 small and medium-sized businesses and should eventually lead to the creation of 200,000 jobs in the region.
Academic excellence
Marseille is the leading university centre in the PACA region. It has expanded its historic training offer to include virtually every type of training imaginable, with nationally renowned engineering schools, a management school (Euromed), a school of Architecture and a school of Fine Arts. The city will also benefit from State credits to modernise its premises and teaching equipment.
The Euro-Mediterranean, an accelerator of development for Marseille
The Euro-Mediterranean is an area that includes 800 companies specialised in telecommunications, finance, commerce or maritime trade, French and foreign, which have opened up over the last 15 years and created over 20,000 jobs. A large international business district which is being transformed into a living neighbourhood with the Euromed Center, office buildings and the Luc Besson multiplex, and also plans for a number of tower blocks, one designed by Jean Nouvel, which will continue to elevate the skyline after the CMA-CGM tower on the Quais d'Arenc.
