The International Exhibition of Contemporary Art ... The Parc Chanot in full colour!
There are events that impart a certain tone to the Parc Chanot. A palette of colours, a variety of materials, a mosaic of excitement and exchange. The International Exhibition of Contemporary Art is one of them!
From March 30th to April 2nd, the Palais de l’Europe was transformed into a large-scale art gallery. An aesthetic event which brought together about 150 artists on more than 3000m2 in the Palais de l'Europe. This was an art fair that extended well beyond the walls of the Palais, with artworks installed on the grounds of the Parc Chanot, creating an ephemeral public art plaza.
Collectors, enthusiasts and newcomers alike demonstrated their passion for art – for the 12th time at this 12th edition – by turning out in force.
The organisers and individual exhibitors closed the fair on a positive note with strong sales of artworks offering proof of the many exchanges shared.
SAVIM: conviviality and gastronomy at the Palais des Evénements!
Le Salon du vin et de la gastronomie (SAVIM), the Wine and Gastronomy Fair, is a perennial event at the Parc Chanot. With 17 years in existence, this is one event that has witnessed the various stages of renovation of the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions de Marseille.
The Palais des Evénements, which hosts two annual editions of the fair - fall and spring - is the place to be for gourmets and wine lovers. The most recent SAVIM took place from March 30th to April 2nd and gathered more than 200 winemakers across 6500m2 of exhibition space in the Palais.
With purchases ranging from 1 to 100 bottles of wine and countless kilos of duck breasts, visitors were able to appreciate the Parc Chanot’s accessibility in the heart of the city... which allowed everyone to head home by metro, thanks to the station right in front of the Parc Chanot or by car, thanks to 1800 parking spaces!
Major success for a major event
From March 12th to 18th, Marseille hosted the 6th World Water Forum, with more than 25,000 visitors from 194 countries and 140 ministerial delegations. This landmark event represented a major achievement for the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions de Marseille whose teams adapted more than 100,000 m2 of interior and exterior space to meet the complex needs of the Forum and its participants.
It was a tour de force of coordination and expertise that facilitated vital debates on the issue of global water access. While the Palais de la Méditerranée and the Palais Phocéen were equipped for the “Exhibition” dimension of the Forum and its many exhibitors, the Palais de l’Europe and the Palais des Congrès opened their doors to 400 thematic sessions which took place in 40 designated conference rooms. The Palais de l'Europe, which usually provides 5000 m2 of column-free space, was modified to accommodate 8 conference rooms built specifically for the Forum.
Highly efficient and professional logistical management helped to guarantee an optimal outcome for the Forum. Safim’s accomplishments were hailed by visitors and recognized in particular by the President of the World Water Council, Loïc Fauchon, “The Parc Chanot has been extraordinary ... without a doubt the best tool yet provided in the history of World Water Forums.”
In light of such success, Marseille and the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions have shown themselves to be a winning duo, poised to host the most important international events.
With its hotel capacity at over 7000 rooms, its accessibility by all means of transportation, its myriad charms and attractions, Marseille is a world-class destination.
As for the seventh edition of the World Water Forum in 2015, the relay baton has now been passed to Daegu in South Korea.
Manga mania!
Japan Expo South - or how to showcase the latest trends in Japanese culture across 27,000 m2 in Marseille? This was the challenge taken on by the organisers of this event for the third consecutive year, which brought together nearly 40,000 visitors in three days, from March 2nd to 4th.
Building on its success, Japan Expo invested in three Parc Chanot venues to offer its exhibitors and visitors the maximum scope to express their diverse universes.
The Palais de la Méditerranée was devoted to the culture and traditions of Japan. The Palais Phocéen focused more specifically on "Manga.” Last, but far from least, the Palais des Evénements boasted sold-out shows for all the J-rock concerts booked over the three days.
The close proximity of these three venuesallowed visitors – most of them in full Cosplay costume - to move from one universe to another, like players in a mind-blowing video game, known for three days as Japan Expo-Parc Chanot.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2011
2011 ... Close to 300 events made for a colourful year for the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions de Marseille.
Congresses, trade shows, conventions ... Looking back at some highlights that marked the year
A round of applause for this first-time PR operation! A great success that welcomed 450 professionals - despite the cold weather - to enjoy first-hand the new facilities of the Parc Chanot!
On January 31st and the first two days of February, Marseille's business tourism specialists gathered together with other vital players in the local economy. Unanimous appreciation was expressed for the new glass facade of the Palais des Congrès, the brand new Palais de l'Europe, and the Palais des Evénements' new tiered plenary seating for 3200. This brand new feature was the unrivaled star of all three evenings.
The Aperos Chanot offered proof that the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions de Marseille is now playing in the big league. The Parc Chanot ranks among the top five highest-performing events venues in France. The word is out!
